How drill pay is built

One drill period pays one day of basic pay — your monthly basic pay divided by 30. Two periods a day, four in a normal weekend.

  • 48 drill periods a year — twelve weekends of four periods each.
  • 15 days of Annual Training, paid at the same daily rate.
  • 63 days of basic pay in a standard year — a little over two months’ worth for one weekend a month.

Drill pay is fully taxable. BAH and BAS are not paid for drill weekends; BAH applies only on orders exceeding 30 consecutive days.

Estimates only, at the 2026 DFAS rates effective 1 January 2026. Gross basic pay before federal and state tax, FICA, TSP and SGLI — the drill pay after deductions calculator runs those. Special and incentive pays, and travel or per diem for drills beyond commuting distance, are not included. Your finance office makes the final determination.
