GI Bill Calculator

What the Post-9/11 GI Bill actually pays at your school — tuition, housing, books, and the gap you cover yourself.

This sets your benefit percentage. Everything else scales from it.

Your school

Your housing allowance is the E-5 with-dependents BAH rate at the campus where you physically attend.

Your situation

Requires the 100% benefit tier. Only helps where tuition exceeds the cap.

Fill in your service, school and enrollment, then press Calculate My GI Bill.

Three numbers, three different rules

  • Tuition — paid to the school. Unlimited at a public in-state school; capped at a private one.
  • Housing — paid to you, based on the E-5 with-dependents BAH rate at your campus, prorated by how many credits you take.
  • Books — paid to you, $41.67 a credit up to $1,000 a year.

All three are then multiplied by your benefit percentage, which comes from how long you served. At 36 months or more you get 100%; at 90 days you get 50%. That single percentage is the biggest lever in the whole benefit.

Estimates only, at the rates for the 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027 rate year. Tuition, housing and books are all subject to your certified enrollment, and VA pays on the days your School Certifying Official reports. Yellow Ribbon agreements, school contributions and participation limits change annually and vary by degree level. Confirm with your School Certifying Official and VA.gov before making financial commitments.
